It tears at the spline groove
When you can catch the screen with a fingernail near the frame and it splits, the mesh has gone brittle from UV exposure. Once one panel tears at the groove, the rest are close behind. This is the clearest sign it is rescreen time, not repair time.
The screen has turned silver
A new charcoal screen is dark and nearly invisible. As it ages, it fades to a shiny, silvery gray that both looks worn and blocks less of the view. The silvered screen is at the end of its life, even if it has not torn yet.
It sags, bellies, or pulls loose

Standard 18/14 charcoal is included; 20/20 No-See-Um adds about $0.50 per square foot for the tiny gnats near ponds and water, Super Screen and TuffScreen about $0.75 for extra strength (Super Screen carries a ten-year manufacturer warranty), and a Florida Glass lower panel about $2 to $3 per square foot.
