May is Outdoor Party Kickoff Month

May is the month for family get togethers, whether you’re planning to visit Mom for Mother’s Day or have a backyard barbecue for Memorial Day. But, regardless of how you decide to enjoy the beautiful month of May, there are things which will make an outdoor event more pleasant. Here we review some of the things which will make May a great month for an outdoor event:

Pool Safety

May is national Pool Safety Month, which means that it’s a great time to review not only the safety of your pool, but also your current practices with regard to pool safety. If you only have a professional check your pool out once a year, May is a great month, since it’s before pool fun gets into full swing. Typical safety problems are the result of a faulty electrical system, improper use or storage of pool chemicals, and unsafe barriers. One of those barriers might be your pool screens. If that’s the case, have them repaired or replaced as soon as possible. A torn or missing screen can give a child the means to find their way into the pool area.

Landscape maintenance

Before the hottest part of the year, take a little time to get your landscaping ready for summer days. Mow the lawn, pull weeds, and cut back plants which are encroaching on the house or HVAC unit. Adjust the irrigation clock and check the system for leaks or problems, add mulch or fertilizer as needed,  and take the time to spruce up the yard in general, or hire someone to do it. Many landscape companies also repair and replace landscape lighting, but if yours doesn’t, or if you’re a DIYer, add outdoor lighting to your list.

Clean your porch screens

After the landscapers leave (not before) cleaning your pool or porch screens will give them new life and get them ready for beautiful Florida breezes. If you didn’t clean your screened in patio after reading our last blog, you may want to take the time to do it now.

Tend to  the barbecue

Before cooking Mom a juicy burger, make sure your barbecue is ready to go. If it needs cleaning, utensils, fuel, or something else, don’t put off this chore until the patties are formed. Have everything in order before the big day, so when the guests arrive, nothing is amiss.

Remember, nothing says comfort like having a beautiful, well-maintained screened in pool or porch to make your May party guests comfortable and happy. If your screens are in need of repair or replacement, give us a call. We’d love to help.
